The formation of Aerobic Granular Sludge is influenced by many factors, such as the type of carbon source, hydrodynamic shear forces, the amount of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), and the presence of diavalent cations. In this study, Ca2+ ions were added with the aim of seeing the effect of these ions on the formation of AGS. The research was conducted using Sequencing Batch Reactor at a working volume of 3 L, superficial air velocity of 1.06 cm/sec, and Organic Loading Rate of 2.5 Kg COD/m3 .day obtained from artificial waste through CH3COONa chemicals, then the cycle time was carried out for 8 hours divided into fill phase for 60 minutes, reaction phase for 402 minutes, settling phase for 8 minutes and decant phase for 8 minutes. The variations used in this study are Reactor 0 as a control where there is no addition of Ca2+ ions, and reactors 1, 2, 3 respectively have the addition of Ca2+ ions as much as 25 mg/l; 45 mg;l; and 100 mg/l. Observations were carried out for 28 days, and graphical plots and statistical calculations were carried out using One Way Anova. Based on the results it was concluded that based on the results of One Way Anova, the addition of Ca2+ ions significantly affects the positive development of physical aspects of AGS such as diameter size, aspect ratio, SVI, density, and deposition speed, but the addition of Ca2+ ions does not significantly affect the removal efficiency, growth rate, or average removal rate. Further observations using SEM-EDS showed that the structure of AGS from samples with reactors that added more Ca2+ ions, had more Ca2+ ions in the particles. text
