POTENTIAL LIVING AROUND THE RAILWAY INFRASTRUCTURE BUFFER AREA FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF MORPHOLOGY AND PUBLIC OPINION (CASE STUDY OF SEVERAL SEGMENTS IN BANDUNG CITY, CIMAHI CITY, AND GARUT REGENCY)

The construction of infrastructure networks such as toll roads, bridges, and railway tracks often becomes a major factor in the segregation of residential areas by limiting access and separating social and economic activities. This research aims to identify the development of settlement morphology o...

This research aims to identify the development of settlement morphology over time, examine settlement morphology from a quantitative spatial perspective, and analyze spatial segregation by comparing existing settlement morphology with those that apply safety standards. This study explores the potential for living based on public opinion and mass media, and identifies living strategies from the perspectives of morphology and public opinion. This study uses Bandung, Cimahi, and Garut segment as research objects to understand the potential for settlements around railway infrastructure buffer area through the perspectives of morphology and public opinion. The research employs the figure-ground method, space syntax, and observation to understand the potential for settlements around railway transport infrastructure from a morphological perspective, and manifest content analysis to gauge the potential from the perspective of public opinion. The results indicate that there are two types of main settlement morphology around railway infrastructure boundaries: settlements experiencing urbanization stagnation and those in the early phases of urbanization. The Bandung segment, as a large city, and Cimahi show a dominance of military facilities and accommodations experiencing urbanization stagnation. On the other hand, the Garut segment, with the reactivation of railway transport infrastructure, is in the early phase of urbanization. The addition of a 9-meter buffer from the railway tracks shows that the greatest gaps in integration, total depth, and connectivity are in the City of Cimahi. Public opinion in mass media on related topics centers around opportunities, vulnerabilities, legality, safety, and ownership. text
