Summary:Ngada Regency in East Nusa Tenggara has great potential in the field of marine fisheries. Fishermen in this area generally use traditional boats and simple storage containers such as wooden crates with ice blocks or Styrofoam ice boxes. However, the ice box is considered ineffective in maintaining fish freshness. The fishermen in Inerie Village are worried about fish damage due to the long transportation from the sea to the market. Therefore, cold storage is needed to store fish with a cooling system so that it lasts longer and avoids heat. The research commenced with the preparation of gindara fish samples weighing 0.178 kg, and equipment consisting of a cold storage with a volume of 157,950 cm3 and type K thermocouples. The refrigerant used was R134a. The variables manipulated were the evaporator temperature of the cold storage and the placement of thermocouples on the fish. The evaporator temperature of the cold storage was controlled based on the temperature control button position, represented by settings 1-3. Thermocouples were positioned on the fish skin at a thickness of 1 mm and within the fish flesh at a depth of 4.5 cm. The experimental method included measuring the operational conditions of the equipment without freezing, conditioning of fish samples and equipment, temperature and energy consumption measurements, and analysis of the coefficient of performance (COP) using Mollier diagrams. Based on research, the freezing temperature profile of fish in cold storage reaches a safe temperature range between -15ºC and -20ºC to maintain the quality of the fish. It was found that the lower the evaporator temperature, the lower the COP value. COP from run 1 to 3 respectively is 2.43; 2.31; and 2.19. Energy consumption for run 1 to 3 respectively is 1.07; 1.22; and 1.31 kWh.
