Both West Papua and PNG had similarities in morphology and geology due to the tectonic settings affecting them. However, in relation within hydrocarbon potential, PNG has discovered of hydrocarbon reserves in 49 oil and gas fields, while the onshore area of West Papua, particularly the bird's body region, has yet to discover any oil or gas fields. The challenges faced in hydrocarbon exploration in this area are the limited of 2D seismic data availability and the poor quality of the existing seismic data. Additionally, acquiring 2D seismic data is very expensive and need various exploration efforts to achieve optimal results with more efficient investment costs. This research presents the results of a study identifying structures that have the potential act as oil and gas traps by integrating well data, seismic data, and gravity data, including new Full Tensor Gravity (FTG) data acquisition. The onshore area of West Papua has potential hydrocarbon trap closures with the identification of three petroleum play systems related to hydrocarbon trapping structures: Fold Thrust Belt (FTB) Play, Inversion Play, and Foreland Play. However, further exploration efforts are required for all three play systems, including 2D seismic acquisition focused in potential closure areas or geological remote sensing and surface mapping to determine the precision location for exploratory drilling to achieve commercially viable reserve discoveries. text
