IPA is one of the octane booster that can be used. IPA can be used as an octane booster if its composition reaches 99.8%-v. In the market, IPA is mostly sold on technical grade 95%-v. Hence, to increase this grade up to 99.8%-v, process dehydration is needed.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> Adsorption is one of the methods for dehydrating isopropyl alcohol. Objectives of this research are (i) to construct a batch adsorption column and to test the column for the process adsorption (ii) to know the performances of the IPA anhydrous produced (iii) to know type of adsorption isoterm for dehydration IPA and (iv)to investigate effect of additon IPA anhydrous to gasoline.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> Column that is used for this operation has outside diameter of 3 ½ inch to control column temperature with hot water and inside diameter of 2¼ inch to place adsorbent.<p> <br /> <br /> <br /> Results from this experiment are the column in this experiment can be used with good to adsorption process, however in desorption process it need to improve, optimal condition to dehydrating IPA are in adsorption flow 1000 mL/hour and desorption time 3 hours, type of adsorption isotherm that agrees with mixture IPA-water is freundlich isotherm, and the addition of IPA into gasoline can increase RON and reduce gases emission from vehicle. text |
