EFFECTS OF THE PRESENCE OF HEAVY METALS IN WATER AND SOIL AS AN INDICATOR OF CLEFT LIP AND/OR PALATE DISEASES IN BANDUNG CITY

Orofacial Cleft (OFC), also known as cleft lip and/or cleft palate, is a disorder that involves a cleft in the upper lip. These clefts can occur on the palate (cleft palate), or on the lip alone (cleft lip). In some cases it can also occur in both parts. Until now, the cause of cleft lip is not k...

These clefts can occur on the palate (cleft palate), or on the lip alone (cleft lip). In some cases it can also occur in both parts. Until now, the cause of cleft lip is not known for certain, but it is thought to be related to a combination of genetic and environmental factors. According to data from the Yayasan Pembina Pendelah Lip dan Langit (YPPCBL), Bandung City ranks 3rd with the highest prevalence in West Java. With the high prevalence of cleft lip and/or palate in Bandung City, which is third in West Java, a study was conducted to analyse the relationship of exposure analysis from clean water to the risk of cleft lip and/or palate incidence. Sampling of soil and clean water was conducted by purposive sampling in Bandung City with a total of 30 samples from 7 sub-districts. This technique is sampling by selecting subjects based on certain considerations or characteristics such as population traits or previously known characteristics. Sampling considerations are based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Determination of the location of side collection is based on data from YPPCBL and adjusted to the will of the respondent. Heavy metal measurements were carried out based on SNI 6989-82: 2018 with ICP-OES tools. Based on the results of the analysis conducted using univariate analysis and Spearman rank correlation analysis, the results showed that there was no relationship between heavy metals Cu, Mn, Ni, and Pb to the occurrence of cleft lip and/or palate. These results cannot statistically determine the association with the risk of cleft lip and/or palate. This may be due to factors other than environmental factors. text
