Description
Summary:Indonesia is one of country that has natural resources. Coal is still be essential energy resources in Indonesia. One of the problems in the coal mining is spontaneous combustion. Spontaneous combustion is a type of combustion which occurs by self-heating when the coal is stored in the storage / stockpile within a certain period. Each country has its own method for understanding coal spontaneous combustion with different parameter. This method produces a temperature versus time curve which describes the process of coal oxidation from temperature 40 ° C to burn. In this study, adiabatic oxidation method is used to determine a liabilities of Indonesia coal spontaneous combustion. The parameters used are grain size 65-80 mesh,100- 140 mesh, and 170-200 mesh, rate of oxygen supply 0.05 L/min, and 0.1 L / min, and compacting 0 kPa, 10 kPa. The result showed that in the tests with various parameters indicate a rate of 40-70 oC can describe the tendency of coal spontaneous combustion . The highest rate value is 14.75 ° C / h in a sample with a size of 170-200 mesh without compacting and oxygen flowrate 0,05 L / min . The influence of grain size on the rate of spontaneous combustion is the smaller the grain size of coal will accelerate the rate of coal spontaneous combustion. Generally, compaction factors will inhibit the rate of coal spontaneous combustion. In some cases with variation of grain size parameter, the smaller the grain size of coal will slow down the rate of spontaneous combustion in high temperature conditions caused by inhibition contact between surface coal area with oxygen by spontaneous combustion product reaction. In some cases, with variation of compaction, compaction factor will accelerate the rate of spontaneous combustion at high temperature conditions caused by heat confinement in the process oo coal spontaneous combustion.
