Local community initiatives aim to revitalize this area through activities involving trade, arts, and exhibitions. This revitalization seeks to transform the area into a vibrant commercial hub while preserving its historical significance. The design incorporates a placemaking approach, which aims to create spaces that cater to community needs, reinforce local identity in line with historical values, and provide flexible spaces for various activities. This ultimately fosters an emotional connection between individuals and their environment. Additionally, the application of adaptive reuse strategies focuses on repurposing existing structures for new functions while retaining their historical value. This thesis aims to optimize the functionality of both buildings based on user potential and historical value within the Tunjungan area, thereby enhancing the area's activity and integration with its surroundings. Furthermore, this effort seeks to restore and preserve the historic image of Tunjungan, not only as a form of conservation but also to boost tourism appeal and support the local economy through designs that remain sensitive to the area's historical values. The process begins with identifying the site's conditions, potential, and community dynamics, followed by analysis to formulate appropriate site development strategies. By integrating placemaking and adaptive reuse approaches, criteria are established that serve as guidelines for developing areas with strong local community potential and historical significance. This integration is key to effectively activating "lost spaces" within the context of the area. Thus, this thesis contributes by offering design strategies that enhance area value based on community potential, particularly in historically significant districts, serving as a proposal for Surabaya's city government in line with the RPJMD 2021-2026, as well as a reference for architects designing facilities in similar contexts. text
