Description
Summary:The increase in the elderly population in Indonesia due to the rise in life expectancy has caused Indonesia to enter the structure of an aging population since 2019. This indicates that 10% of Indonesia's population are elderly. The elderly population refers to individuals over 60 years old. This increase has led Indonesia to experience a second demographic bonus. The second demographic bonus is a condition where the elderly contribute to the economy. To achieve the second demographic bonus in Indonesia, the elderly must undergo a process of healthy aging, also known as successful aging. Successful aging is a condition in which the elderly are free from diseases, have good cognitive and physical functions, and possess a strong desire for involvement in life. However, in achieving the demographic bonus and successful aging, there are three main issues among the elderly that categorize them as vulnerable, namely health problems (obstacles to indicators of being free from diseases and having good cognitive and physical abilities), economically unproductive elderly (obstacles to indicators of having a strong desire for and involvement in life), and the need for a companion or caregiver (obstacles to indicators of good cognitive and physical abilities). These three issues are essentially rooted in one major problem, which is health. Healthy elderly individuals can engage in activities, socialize, and contribute to the economy, reducing their dependency on others. Therefore, both preventive and corrective planning is needed to enable the elderly to experience successful aging, thus maximizing the second demographic bonus in Indonesia. One such plan is to provide elderly-friendly housing and environments that support them in engaging in various activities. Due to the increasing population, the demand for land to create living spaces is also rising. This is in contrast to the availability of increasingly limited land. Additionally, as the elderly population grows, the need for elderly-friendly housing and environments will continue to increase. Therefore, in this project, a mixed-use building is designed with a primary function as housing, specifically apartments, and healthcare facilities in the form of a main clinic focusing on geriatrics with a well-being architecture approach. The design goal of creating a mixed-use apartment with aging-friendly criteria and supporting successful aging is addressed by designing supporting facilities within the apartment complex for the elderly, complemented by designs that consider the comfort of the elderly. The goal of designing a mixed-use apartment that encourages the elderly to be healthy, independent, economically productive, and socially active to achieve successful aging is addressed by providing spaces and facilities that support the elderly in their daily activities comfortably. Furthermore, the goal of designing a mixed-use apartment for the elderly with an innovative, adaptive, and recreational design approach is addressed by designing spaces with a high level of collaboration that can be used for various events and creating units that can adapt to the needs of the elderly.
