Summary: | Landfilling waste emits significant amounts of greenhouse gases (GHGs),
contributing to global warming and climate change. Institut Teknologi Bandung
(ITB) has developed a sustainable waste management master plan, integrating
composting technology, incinerators, Black Soldier Fly (BSF), and recycling to
reduce waste transported to landfills. This study examines the potential for GHG
emission reductions and the economic value of carbon (NEK) by optimizing waste
processing technology at the Integrated Waste Treatment Plant (IPST) in the
Campus area. Waste generation and composition data were used to estimate GHG
emissions through sampling methods based on SNI 19-3964-1994. GHG emissions
were estimated using the IPCC 2006 Guidelines tier-1 method. The average daily
waste generation for mixed waste, leaf waste, and food waste was 917.42 kg/day,
553.16 kg/day, and 9.18 kg/day, respectively. The study results show that GHG
emissions for the business-as-usual scenario, optimistic IPST optimization
scenario, and pessimistic scenario were 1071.50 tons CO2e/year, 357.94 tons
CO2e/year, and 651.14 tons CO2e/year, respectively. The optimistic waste
management scenario can reduce GHG emissions by 713.56 tons CO2e/year
(66.59%), while the pessimistic scenario can reduce 420.36 tons CO2e/year
(39.23%). The carbon valuation based on the carbon unit price from IDXCarbon
was Rp41,957,515.2 for the optimistic scenario and Rp24,717,063.5 for the
pessimistic scenario. |
