Description
Summary:Cerium (Ce) is the most abundant element among other rare earth elements (REE’s). The widely use of Ce cause the needs and economical value of Ce increase gradually. There are several methode that has been use to separate REE’s, such as solvent extraction and liquid supported membrane. However, these methods are limited for laboratory scale. The aim of this research is to find a separation methode of Ce from other REE’s that can be applied in industries. Solvent Impregnated Resin (SIR) is a separation methode that has a principal combination of solvent extraction and ion exchange resin. SIR are prepared by immobilization of extractan into hydrophobic porous polymer resin. In this research, SIR methode is used on the separation Ce(IV) from La(III) and Nd(III) using combination of D2EHPA:TBP extractan 3:1. The optimal condition for separation are pH feed solution (mix standard solution of Ce(IV), La(III), and Nd(III)) is one; pH complex SIR with La(III) and Nd(III) is one, and flow rate feed solution is 1 mL min-1. The application of this methode is expected to increase Ce(IV) production on industrial scale.
