STUDY OF CHARACTERISTICS SEDIMENT IN FOUR ESTUARIES IN COASTAL CIREBON REGENCY

Changes in the shape of the water bed due to the sedimentation process will cause shallowing, especially in river estuary areas. The characteristics of sediment at river estuaries have their own special characteristics, especially in the study area, namely at the Ambulu River Estuary, Ender Ri...

The characteristics of sediment at river estuaries have their own special characteristics, especially in the study area, namely at the Ambulu River Estuary, Ender River Estuary, Cimanis River Estuary, and Mundu River Estuary, Cirebon Regency. Each river estuary has similarities or differences depending on the hydrodynamic processes that occur at the river estuary. The sediment trap method is the method used in this research with one point at the mouth of the estuary for placing the sediment trap and measurements of supporting data, namely currents, tides and sea water quality, are carried out at the same point as the sediment trap point. In this method, sediment samples are obtained that have settled at the bottom of the waters. Sediment characteristics in this study are related to the rate of sediment deposition. Based on field measurements and laboratory test results, it was found that the classification of sediment type in the study area was clay. The diameter of D60 sediment ranges from 0.0008 – 0.0023 mm, while for D90 it ranges from 0.0012 – 0.0032 mm. The specific gravity at the four stations ranges from 2.642 to 2.6602. Meanwhile, the fall speed ranges from 0.161×10-3 to 1.133×10-3 m/s. Sediment formed vertically is more firm at Mundu Station and more irregular at Cimanis Station and is related to the speed of sediment fall. The sediment deposition rate ranges from 2,454 kg/m3/day to 3,788 kg/m3/day. The rate of sediment deposition is related to the speed of sediment fall and the size of sediment grains. text
