Description
Summary:Hydrogen sulfide is a highly toxic, corrosive, and hazardous gas even at low concentrations. This gas is used in several industries, one of which is the oil and gas industry. As one of the largest oil and gas industries in Indonesia, the potential danger of H2S gas is certainly inseparable from this company. One of Pertamina's strategic projects is Jambaran Tiung Biru, where the refinery focuses on processing H2S gas which can certainly cause hazards to workers. This study uses the scientific approach of health risk analysis to see how much the level of risk of workers to inhale H2S gas exposure. Sampling was conducted on 30 workers in the exposed group and 10 workers in the control group. Sampling of H2S concentration in the work environment was taken by methylene blue method while inhaled H2S gas samples were taken by personal sampler method using charcoal tube adsorbent according to NIOSH 6013 method. This study will also look at the effect of H2S exposure on the decline in lung function carried out through spirometry examination. The results showed that the average value of ambient H2S concentration was 0.032, this value was still below the quality limit of ambient H2S concentration in the work environment of Permenaker No.5 of 2018. The value of inhaled H2S concentration in the exposed group obtained the range (0.00327 - 0.00580) and the control group (<0.001). The relationship between the addition of intake dose of H2S concentration to the response of lung function decline cannot be proven. Based on the Odds Ratio calculation, it was found that the exposed group respondents were more at risk 4.52 times than the exposed group respondents. The Risk Quotient (RQ) value shows that the health risk of workers increases over time (RQ>1), especially in the long term
