Description
Summary:Open-pit coal mining at PT XYZ in Muara Maung, South Sumatra, dispose overburden material at disposal area located close to the Highwall slope crest, which has shown instability signs and suspected to be caused by the remnants of sludge deposits. A stability analysis of the disposal slope was conducted to obtain some solutions which can be implemented in order to make disposal stability improvements. Physical material data obtained from laboratory tests were processed and used as parameters for the slope stability analysis. The result of stability analysis, in terms of safety factor values, was then aligned with the Indonesian Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 1827K/30/MEM/2018. Recommendations were made to modify the slope angle of the stockpile to 30º and to create benched counterweights at the front of the stockpile, with each bench approximately 7.9 meters high and a width of bench about 6.3 meters in front of the counterweight. These adjustments resulted in a gradual increase in the slope's safety factor values to 0.64, 0.79, and 1.24. Thus, the application of counterweights at the front of the stockpile is deemed effective as the safety factor value of 1.24 complies with the Indonesian Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 1827K/30/MEM/2018.
