THE EFFECT OF WIND VARIABILITY ON SO2 CONCENTRATION IN PASTEUR, BANDUNG CITY DURING 2023

Bandung, one of the cities in West Java, is experiencing a rapid increase in vehicle and industrial activity. This increases the emission of pollutant gases, including sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas. The concentration level of pollutant gases is influenced by weather factors, one of which is wind. T...

This increases the emission of pollutant gases, including sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas. The concentration level of pollutant gases is influenced by weather factors, one of which is wind. This study aims to see the effect of wind variability on the magnitude of SO2 concentrations measured using the Pandora device, in Pasteur, Bandung City during 2023. The research data used includes sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas concentrations measured using the Pandora observation tool, as well as wind speed and direction data measured from the Automatic Weather System (AWS) tool. The research started from December 01, 2022 to November 30, 2023 by conducting seasonal, monthly, and diurnal scale analysis. The result showed that seasonally, the highest SO2 concentrations occurred in the JJA season and the lowest in the DJF season, while wind speed was highest in the DJF season and lowest in the MAM season. Monthly, SO2 concentrations were highest in August and lowest in February, with wind speeds highest in February and lowest in November. Diurnally, there is a negative correlation between wind speed and SO2 concentrations in the DJF season (-0,72), and a positive correlation in the JJA season (0,48). In the DJF season, SO2 concentrations decreased when wind speeds exceeded 2 m/s, especially from the west. In the JJA season, SO2 concentrations increased when the wind speeds exceeded 3 m/s, especially from the southwest. text
