THE DESIGN OF COMMUNITY BAMBOO FOREST IN CILAYUNG VILLAGE, JATINANGOR DISTRICT, SUMEDANG REGENCY, WEST JAVA AS A SOURCE OF RAW MATERIALS FOR CHARCOAL AND LIQUID SMOKE

Most of the area in Cilayung Village, Sumedang, is a settlement bordering an area covered by rope bamboo (Gigantochloa apus) and letter bamboo (Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea). This study aims to determine the suitability of land for optimal bamboo growth and to determine the types of bamboo that ha...

This study aims to determine the suitability of land for optimal bamboo growth and to determine the types of bamboo that have the potential as raw materials for charcoal production in the Cilayung Village area. Data were collected using the stratified random sampling method based on the distribution of the two bamboo species in a 17.8 m circular plot. The data observed included microclimate conditions, geographical conditions of the stand in the form of slope, soil pH, soil temperature, light intensity, soil moisture, and environmental hue, as well as data related to bamboo samples that will be carbonized into charcoal, as many as five repetitions from each plot for testing the percentage of yield, water content, ash content, volatile matter content, and fixed carbon content to be compared with SNI 01- 1683-1989. The existing stand conditions are known to be suitable to support optimal bamboo growth, except for the slope and light intensity factors. The test results showed that the charcoal produced by both species met the standards and the best results were obtained by the rope bamboo species. text
