Description
Summary:Indonesia is committed to starting the transition to using renewable energy. With the potential for implementing the use of renewable energy in Indonesia is quite high, especially in marine energy such as tidal energy. In this final project, a numerical model analysis of a four-blade vertical axis tidal turbine was tested to see its potential in Indonesian waters. This analysis was carried out using Ansys fluent program. The analysis reviewed the performance of the tidal turbine model consisting of the power coefficient (????????????????) and the thrust coefficient (????????????????). The review was conducted based on four limiting parameters, namely the variation of the turbine blade size using NACA 0015 and NACA 0018 blade profiles, the variation of the inlet flow velocity value in the channel of 0.5 m/s and 1 m/s, the variation of the attack angle value of -5°, 0°, and 5°, and the variation of the turbine rotation speed with Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) values of 0.2, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2. Data collection was carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling using Multiple Reference Frames (MRF). It was found that the performance of the tidal current turbine model can produce optimum values for the power coefficient and thrust coefficient at an attack angle of 5° with the NACA 0018 size.
