Summary: | In order to improve soft clay soil to bear static load, soil stabilization using lime, cement and chemical additive has been used abundantly. This research attempts to use lime and cement, 2, 3 and 6 %, to stabilize soft clay in order to resist cyclic load.
Soil stabilization will be necessary for the purpose of improving the decreased clay resistance caused by cyclic load. The decrease of clay resistance might be happened in subgrade under the railway track caused by the cyclic load of the train which in turn will be seen as mud pumping.
This research found that the decrease of clay resistance caused by cyclic load might happen up to 60 to 85% than its resistance caused by static load. The clay mixed with 3 % cement were able to resist the highest cyclic load. It was also found that although the cyclic load was relatively small, the sample would failure when we used the highest cycle. It could be also seen the influence of curing time of the sample mixed with lime. |
