Description
Summary:Understanding the characteristic of water flow in an open channel is important in predicting flow discharge during floods and in the design process of artificial channels. The understanding of water flow can be explained through the SaintVenant equation which consists of the mass balance equation and the momentum conservation equation. Generally, flow in open channels is categorized into steady flow and unsteady flow. Steady flow only experience changes in height due to changes in distance (??????????????) ? 0 so there is no change in time(??????????????) = 0. In unsteady flow, changes in height occur due to changes in distance (??????????????) ? 0 and changes in time as well (??????????????) ? 0. In understanding the nature of water flow, modeling is one of the effective methods through various approaches and calibrations. Modeling can be categorized into two, namely physical modeling and mathematical modeling. The utilization of water flow modeling in open channels in Indonesia is still very lacking. Physical modeling for water flow still uses very simple open channel props, while mathematical modeling is still very little applied. As one of the leading universities in Indonesia, Bandung Technology of Institute is often used as a reference in various learning methods in theory and practice. The existence of physical modeling and mathematical modeling experiments can be the initial stage in improving the quality of science and technology in Indonesia.
