One of the materials that have high potential to be used as raw materials for CLT is bamboo and gmelina wood (Gmelina arborea). However, the disadvantage of these woody products is that they are not resistant to the attack of weathering fungi. The fungus Trichoderma ressei is classified as a soft rot fungus that can damage wood products. One method to improve the quality of wood products such as CLT is by adding preservatives in the form of disodium tetraborate pentahydrate (Na2B4O7.5H2O). This study aims to determine the effect of soaking time of betung bamboo and gmelina wood as raw materials for hybrid CLT in disodium tetraborate pentahydrate solution against T. ressei fungal attack. The research began with preserving bamboo and gmelina wood by soaking method using disodium tetraborate pentahydrate concentration of 7% (b/v) at various variations of soaking duration (8, 12, and 16 hours). Bamboo betung (Dendrocalamus asper) and gmelina wood that have been preserved are made into hybrid CLT products. The CLT was made by applying isocyanate adhesive (250 g/m2 labour weight) on the surface of gmelina wood. After that, betung bamboo strips were arranged on the adhesive-treated board. The center lamina containing the betung bamboo strips will be crossed again with gmelina boards that have been treated with adhesive and the boards that have been arranged are cold pressed with a pressure of 60 kg/cm2 for 2 hours. The resulting CLT product was tested for resistance to T. ressei fungal attack using SNI 7207-2014. Preservative retention, weight loss, durability class and morphological analysis of macroscopic fungal attack were observed. The results showed that variations in the length of soaking had retention values that were in accordance with SNI 7207-2014. Soaking treatment had a significant effect on the durability class of hybrid CLT compared to the control treatment (without preservation). However, the soaking duration treatment did not have a significant effect on the durability class of hybrid CLT, so that the optimal soaking duration was achieved at 8 hours. text |
