COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE THICKNESS OF THE PLASTIC ZONE IN UNDERGROUND MINING TUNNELS USING NUMERICAL MODELING BASED ON MOHR-COULOMB AND HOEK & BROWN CRITERIA

In underground mine planning, the construction of a tunnel must consider the surrounding rock conditions. These conditions affect the collapse zones that may occur in the tunnel. The thickness of the collapse zone can be modeled using the RockScience 2 (RS2) software. The modeling will be perform...

These conditions affect the collapse zones that may occur in the tunnel. The thickness of the collapse zone can be modeled using the RockScience 2 (RS2) software. The modeling will be performed using the Mohr- Coulomb and Hoek-Brown criteria to compare the resulting plastic zones and determine whether the Factor of Safety value is consistent with the plastic zones from both criteria. Based on the modeling conducted, it shows that the collapse zone produced with the Hoek-Brown criterion is smaller compared to the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. This is due to the Hoek-Brown criterion's approach, which uses cohesion (c) and internal friction angle (?) parameters along with the material constant mb and rock mass constant s, which have smaller values. And the theoretical calculation re show that the Factor of Safety value from the Hoek-Brown criteria is smaller than that of Mohr-Coulomb. text
