Partial Discharge (PD) is an important phenomenon that affects the reliability
of insulation in high-voltage equipment and often serves as an early indicator of
system failure. Therefore, PD testing is crucial, with calibration as a vital initial step.
Calibration is performed by generating synthetic PD using a pC calibrator. This study
evaluates the performance of three types of PD calibrators under various operational
conditions to determine the most effective and accurate calibrator. The tests were
conducted in accordance with IEC 60270 standards, using the Benchmark method on
a needle-plate configuration with a 2 cm gap. The results of the study show that
Calibrator 2 offers the best accuracy and precision, with an average charge difference
of 0.2983 nC compared to Calibrators 1 and 3, which had differences of 2.4966 nC
and 7.0490 nC, respectively. Additionally, Calibrator 2 demonstrated more consistent
performance across various test voltages (7 kV, 8 kV, and 9 kV), closely matching the
expected charge calculation values. These findings make a significant contribution to
the power industry, particularly in improving PD calibration practices, which can
ultimately extend the lifespan of equipment and reduce the risk of system failures
caused by undetected insulation issues. |
