Summary: | Decentralized system has been a common topic in the technology and
software engineering domain these past several years. This is due to the
attractiveness that blockchain offers to the world. First, the immutability
characteristic makes any activity that is done in the blockchain permanent and
resistant to forgeries. This is a very strong advantage that is needed in developing a
management system for vaccine certificates.
The chosen blockchain technology in this project is Hyperledger Fabric
because this blockchain offers a permissioned-based system. This means only
trusted nodes can join the network and do works on the system. This is very
different compared to other blockchains, such as Ethereum, which usually are
public. They allow every node (including nodes that might have bad intention) to
join the network and gain access to the data in the blockchain.
The prototype of the developed system has fulfilled eight of nine
requirements for the management system of digital vaccine certificates. This
prototype is able to register users into the system, log users in, record vaccination,
and find a vaccine certificate. Asides from that, this prototype can keep the integrity
of the stored data. Unfortunately, the throughput requirement of the prototype is not
fulfilled.
Due to the reasons mentioned above, the developed prototype is not perfect
yet. However, it can still be used as a reference in developing a management system
for digital vaccine certificates that utilizes blockchain technology. The potential is
immense if it can somehow be integrated with the existing system. |
