Electric power system generates and transmit electric power used by electric equipments for the greater good of mankind.

In the process of generation and transmission, there is a phenomenon called power loss. It causes power generated from being used fully and therefore not beneficial. Furthermore, efforts should be done to reduce this phenomenon from happening.

This final project proposes two ways to reduce power loss, in this case active power loss, by changing the dispatching scheme and by the addition of capacitors in the system. Both of this method is aplicated in an optimal power flow environment.

The methods concerned are aplicated in two case studies. The first one is the 57 bus system of IEEE. The second is derrived from the electric power system of Jawa-Madura-Bali 500 KV system in Indonesia.

The comparison between the methods in the two cases is made generally by using parameters such as line loading, bus voltage, etc; and with a contingency analysis using the Cascading Index method.
text
