Description
Summary:Morotai is a well-known diving destination in Indonesia, recognized for the occurrence of the Mobula thurstoni. To update and add to the existing data, this study aims to estimate the population structure of M. thurstoni and its movement in Morotai marine ecosystem in Indonesia. Observations were conducted from June 24th to September 14th, 2021 using Remote Underwater Video (RUV) and Underwater Visual Census (UVC) methods, alongside environmental condition recordings. M. thurstoni was present in 11 out of 56 dives during morning and afternoon. The observed individuals were identified as juveniles and female adults. The presence of vertical coral reefs and barrier reef formations are suspected factors associated with the movement of M. thurstoni.
