The high levels of urbanization and development in Bandung City have led to significant land-use changes and a reduction in green open spaces in urban areas, particularly in the provision of spaces that consider children's rights in their planning. RW04 in Kopo is one of the neighborhoods with a high child population but lacks of open spaces that function as places for children to play and socialize due to limited land in densely populated residential areas. The location, which borders arterial and collector roads, and the shared use of road space with vehicles also make RW04 not yet a safe and comfortable space for children. The concept of Child Friendly Spaces proposed by UNICEF can help to create child-friendly spaces by applying the main principles of safety, inclusivity, exploration, and participation. Therefore, this research aims to formulate principles for designing child-friendly residential areas with a Child Friendly Spaces approach in RW04 Kopo, Bandung City. This qualitative research uses grounded theory and case study methods, employing literature review analysis and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The formulation of normative design principles and the identification of potentials, issues, and needs are compiled by reviewing 7 criteria (safety, security, comfort, accessibility, inclusivity, exploration, and participation) and 6 components (location layout, road space, public space, public facilities, infrastructure/utilities, and child participation) of child-friendly residential areas. The results of the analysis, including components that need attention, are used to formulate principles and design concepts for child-friendly residential areas with a Child Friendly Spaces approach in RW04 Kopo. The result of this study can be used as a reference and consideration in creating other childfriendly spaces in densely populated settlements in Bandung City. text
