Summary:The construction of urban infrastructures such as elevated toll road often results in underutilized spaces beneath them, leading to social and economic problems, as well as illegal activities. This research aims to formulate alternatives and requirements for the utilization of these vacant spaces under the Becakayu Elevated Toll Road to align with the environmental characteristics of the surrounding area and comply with normative regulations. The research method employed is qualitative with a deductive approach, involving field observations, literature review, and descriptive-qualitative analysis. The study identifies four typologies of space based on the road sections they encompass, with two typologies showing potential for utilization. The area’s characteristics are dominated by trade, services, and densely populated settlements, indicating a high demand for public facilities. Five out of seven observation zones were found to have conditions not aligned with the ideal principles of space utilization. Seven points of alternative space utilization recommendations have been formulated based on an analysis of the area’s characteristics and community needs. In conclusion, most of the vacant spaces under the Becakayu Elevated Toll Road have the potential for utilization, but fulfilling safety criteria, space vitality, and environmental harmony is necessary to prevent further negative impacts and meet the needs of the surrounding community.
