Summary: | The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has significantly impacted the home
consumer market, offering new opportunities and challenges. Fog computing, which provides local
data processing, has emerged as a solution to overcome latency and bandwidth issues associated
with cloud computing. However, existing guidelines such as ELDAMeth and TpM-Pro are not
fully equipped to address the specific needs of home consumer IoT systems integrated with fog
computing.
This paper proposes a guideline designed to optimize the development of such systems.
The guideline leverages the strengths of existing methodologies while introducing modifications
to improve efficiency, scalability, and real-time performance. A comparative analysis between
ELDAMeth and TpM-Pro is conducted to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each
methodology, and to provide a solid foundation for the development of this new guideline.
The guideline is validated through a case study of a home consumer IoT prototype
development assisted by an IoT expert. Iterative steps and integration testing are performed to
ensure all components work well together. The prototype is tested in a controlled environment to
identify and resolve design issues prior to real-world deployment. The use of the guideline in the
case study is evaluated, with adjustments made if necessary.
This study contributes by providing a tailored guideline for home consumer IoT systems
with fog computing, to facilitate better project outcomes. Although the security aspect was not
addressed in the prototype development, this guideline provides a basis for future improvements
in this area. |
