Summary: | The phenomenon of overcrowding in Bandung City has become an important issue to be resolved. Rapid urban growth and increasing urbanization are the causes of this phenomenon. In general, any increase in population will be accompanied by demands for additional housing. However, this is difficult to realize due to the increasingly narrow land that causes the emergence of slums. Therefore, the United Nations emphasizes several points of the Sustainable Development Goals with the aim of realizing sustainable and environmentally friendly cities.
One way to do this is by providing multi-storey housing. The development of multi-storey housing should be adapted to the conditions of minimizing construction costs, flexibility of loading and unloading materials, and the use of local materials based on economy and aesthetics. One of the efforts that can be made is to design apartments through a PPVC rapid construction method approach using wood. The effort was made to overcome the density of the population and avoid the negative impact on the environments.
Apartments are a type of multi-storey housing that is commonly found in the city of Bandung. However, almost all apartments still use conventional construction methods that consume construction time and materials. Therefore, PPVC rapid construction method can be applied due to its easy, flexible, and demountable process with the use of lightweight wood materials. Thus, rapid construction methods based on natural materials can contribute to construction and development in Bandung City.
