INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/85580 Medical tourism, which combines the medical service sector with tourism experiences, has become a new industry with significant potential and is being actively developed in various countries. Indonesia, as a country with a strong international tourism sector, such as Bali, has not yet developed this sector extensively. On the other hand, data shows that more than 2 million Indonesians seek medical treatment abroad for better healthcare services. This study focuses on exploring the role of architecture in the development of medical tourism in Bali Province, Indonesia, through the design of a "medical hotel" that not only provides excellent healthcare and treatment services but also creates a calming, enjoyable, and authentic experience for visitors by showcasing Bali's culture and natural beauty. The issues addressed include identifying the significance of architecture in responding to and shaping the development of medical tourism through the design of facilities that synergize medical services with tourism experiences, as well as a design that highlights the uniqueness of Bali's culture and ecology as an authentic value-added feature. The methodology used in this thesis involves exploring the local natural and cultural potential through case study methods based on the book "Architectural Research Methods." This thesis innovates in developing a medical hotel design concept that not only meets the functional and operational needs from both medical and tourism perspectives but also delves deeply into integrating the principles of cultural ecology. This creates a sustainable entity that aligns with the local cultural and environmental context of Bali. The design thesis aims to maximize the application of cultural ecology principles in the medical hotel building, resulting in a strong and specific character that adheres to ecological principles, local cultural values, and a holistic visitor experience. This innovation is expected to significantly support the development of medical tourism in Indonesia, particularly in Bali. Overall, the design concept generated not only contributes to the development of medical tourism in Bali but also enhances the body of knowledge, particularly in the integration of architecture, sustainability, and medical tourism, involving deep contextual and ecological approaches. This thesis is expected to serve as a foundation for developing similar models in other regions, tailored to their unique cultural and ecological characteristics. text |
