In Indonesia, toll roads have a traffic accident ratio of 0.76 accidents per kilometer, the highest compared to other types of roads. The government has emphasized that priority attention must be given to national toll roads due to the high number of accidents occurring on these roads. Data from Jasa Marga indicates that approximately 82% of accidents are caused by driver factors, particularly those related to risky driving behavior. Risky driving behavior refers to unsafe or unlawful actions taken in response to driving conditions, which have the potential to cause accidents. Therefore, understanding risky driving behavior is crucial in efforts to reduce traffic accidents. However, risky driving behavior is a complex issue and varies between countries, making it essential to identify specific driving behaviors on Indonesian toll roads. This study aims to identify risky driving behaviors on Indonesia's toll roads using the Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS) method. The study involved eight participants, with each individual undertaking two trips: Bandung to Jakarta and Jakarta to Bandung, using two toll roads, the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road and the Cikampek-Purwakarta-Padalarang (Cipularang) Toll Road. The results of this study identified 28 types of risky driving behaviors on Indonesia's toll roads. The most common behaviors included overtaking other vehicles using the left lane (37.33%), tailgating or driving at an unsafe distance behind other vehicles (16.63%), and exceeding the speed limit (11.31%). The risk level of each behavior was subjectively assessed by drivers on a scale from 0 (zero) to 10 (ten). Among the identified behaviors, 7 (seven) were found to have high-risk levels, 14 (fourteen) were medium-risk, and 7 (seven) were low-risk. To prevent drivers from engaging in risky driving behaviors on toll roads, a design framework was developed using the 3E approach (engineering, education, and enforcement). text |

Traffic accidents are an urgent global issue. According to the WHO, traffic accidents
currently rank as the 12th leading cause of death worldwide and are projected to rise to the
5th position by 2030. In Indonesia, toll roads have a traffic accident ratio of 0.76 accidents
per kilometer, the highest compared to other types of roads. The government has emphasized
that priority attention must be given to national toll roads due to the high number of
accidents occurring on these roads. Data from Jasa Marga indicates that approximately
82% of accidents are caused by driver factors, particularly those related to risky driving
behavior. Risky driving behavior refers to unsafe or unlawful actions taken in response to
driving conditions, which have the potential to cause accidents. Therefore, understanding
risky driving behavior is crucial in efforts to reduce traffic accidents. However, risky driving
behavior is a complex issue and varies between countries, making it essential to identify
specific driving behaviors on Indonesian toll roads.
This study aims to identify risky driving behaviors on Indonesia's toll roads using the
Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS) method. The study involved eight participants, with each
individual undertaking two trips: Bandung to Jakarta and Jakarta to Bandung, using two
toll roads, the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road and the Cikampek-Purwakarta-Padalarang
(Cipularang) Toll Road.
The results of this study identified 28 types of risky driving behaviors on Indonesia's toll
roads. The most common behaviors included overtaking other vehicles using the left lane
(37.33%), tailgating or driving at an unsafe distance behind other vehicles (16.63%), and
exceeding the speed limit (11.31%). The risk level of each behavior was subjectively assessed
by drivers on a scale from 0 (zero) to 10 (ten). Among the identified behaviors, 7 (seven)
were found to have high-risk levels, 14 (fourteen) were medium-risk, and 7 (seven) were
low-risk. To prevent drivers from engaging in risky driving behaviors on toll roads, a design
framework was developed using the 3E approach (engineering, education, and enforcement).
