According to Effendi (in Ramdhani, 2023) film is defined as a cultural product and a tool to express art that is displayed audio or visual. Film is not only a moving picture for entertainment media that touches emotionally, but also a form of implementation of cultures in Indonesia. The film industry in Indonesia is one of the creative industry sectors that has experienced ups and downs in its journey. But until now, the film industry in the country is still struggling to develop the film industry. Joko Anwar, one of the famous directors, said that the quality and quantity of human resources in the film industry is still low, therefore many film graduates are difficult to be hired by the industry. The main factor that makes film graduates difficult to be hired by the industry is the gap between education and the film industry in the field, both in terms of methods, content, facilities & infrastructure, quality of teachers, and technology in which making film students do not have competent skills and abilities to survive in working enviroment. In addition, the problem of film education which is still incorporated into other applied disciplines has led to the teaching of film education not fully focusing on the field of film. Therefore, as an attempt to address the problems of the film academy, film academy with concept of open design is designed to foster the creativity of potential film artists to work, learn, and work towards industry, art and technology in order to produce qualified film bachelor graduates. This project aims to combine the learning environment with a realistic eviroment which done by professionals by developing a great facilities, professional lecturer, great infrastructure, in addition to the educational environment accommodates creative & collaboration spaces to support student teaching & work activities. With the academy's open design concept, the learning spaces are designed to be more open to the public, community and city and are interdisciplinary in nature. Therefore, the film academy will not only establish as a formal institution but also serve as a public space for students, film community, and the surrounding community to conduct creative, expressive and innovative activities.
