Summary: | Household waste collection services initiated by the private sector have the potential to encourage the resolution of waste management problems in Indonesia that have not focused on upstream handling. These collection services offer two collection models, drop-off and pick-up, as well as various incentives and technology implementations. This study aims to explore the key drivers driving the adoption of household waste collection services in Indonesia, focusing on exploring the factors that influence usage intention, the influence of collection models, and recommendations for industry development strategies. Some of the factors used were adapted from the unified theory of technology acceptance and use (UTAUT2). This quantitative-based research was conducted through an online questionnaire involving 275 respondents.
The results of quantitative structural equation modeling analysis revealed that effort expectancy and hedonic motivation positively and significantly influence the intention to use household waste collection services. In addition, facilitating conditions showed a significant impact on users of both collection models, while price value only significantly affected users of drop-off services. The results also underscore the role of different waste collection models in shaping individual preferences. Therefore, it is important to understand individual expectations in structuring waste collection services. To advance the industry and encourage sustainable recycling behavior, service providers should focus on developing userfriendly services, expanding coverage to improve accessibility, raising awareness about fun and rewarding recycling, and adjusting strategies based on waste collection models.
