Description
Summary:The evolution of money has transitioned from barter systems to digital payments, with recent advancements in financial technology driving a global shift. While developed countries like the United Kingdom lead in digital payments, generating revenues of £6.6 billion annually, developing nations like Indonesia are rapidly adopting these technologies but still face challenges. Indonesia, one of ASEAN's largest economies, is seeing significant growth in digital payment usage, yet it lags behind countries like the UK. To address these challenges, digital financial technologies, such as the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), have been introduced. QRIS, developed by Bank Indonesia, is a unified QR code system that streamlines digital payments by integrating multiple banks and e-wallets like GoPay, DANA, and OVO. QRIS is not just a payment tool; it aims to enhance economic processes, accelerate transactions, and improve access to financing, particularly for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). MSMEs are vital to Indonesia's economy but often struggle with financial management. Many fail within five years due to poor financial practices, with 77.5% not maintaining financial reports. Digital financial technology, especially QRIS, offers a promising solution to these challenges, potentially improving financial management among MSMEs. This study investigates the impact of QRIS on the financial management and performance of Indonesian MSMEs. It seeks to understand how QRIS can enhance financial management, address declining income, and improve financial stability. The research is driven by two key questions: How does QRIS affect MSMEs' financial management practices? And how does it influence their financial performance? By answering these, the study aims to offer insights and recommendations for policymakers, financial institutions, and MSMEs as they navigate the digital transformation. In conclusion, as Indonesia advances in digitalization, implementing technologies like QRIS is essential for ensuring MSMEs thrive in the digital economy. The findings will provide a basis for future research on digital financial technology and MSME development, highlighting QRIS's potential to improve financial management and business sustainability in Indonesia.
