Some polymers which can be decomposed by microorganism in the environment, such as polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), polycaprolactone (PCL), polyvalerolactone (PVL), and polylactic acid (PLA) have succesfully been synthesized by ring opening polymerization of lactones monomers in the presence of catalyst and by chemical and biosynthesis route. The problem arising from the biosynthesis route was the difficulty to control the chemical structure of the obtained polymers, because the route of microbial synthesis only yields the isotactic structure with 100 % R configuration. Another technique of polymerization used for the synthesis of polyester is by ring-opening polymerization of lactone monomer. By this method, the polyester with the highest yield can be obtained, but the molecular weight of the obtained polymers were low, so that they have limited applications. text
