Summary: | PT Arteria Daya Mulia (Arida) is a manufacturing company with the main product
of fishing nets. The net department as the party responsible for net production has
two workstations, namely the net machine and the shuttle machine. The net machine
is a tool for producing nets while the shuttle machine is used to prepare raw
materials for nets. In the net department, the average operating time of the net
machine each month is only around 35% of the total available production time. The
rest of the time is loss in the production process. Meanwhile, the efficiency level of
the net machine has not reached the company's target, which is 87.5%. In addition,
the efficiency measurement used by the company has not used the standards
applicable in the manufacturing industry. The efficiency measurement used by the
company so far is only based on the operating time of the net machine without
considering other aspects such as quality. The company feels that this is not
effective enough in identifying overall production performance. Therefore, this
study tries to use an approach to measuring company performance by calculating
the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) value and designing improvement
proposals that can increase this value.
In calculating and improving OEE, the author uses the OEE improvement
framework developed by Cheah, Prakash, & Seng Ong (2020). The OEE
improvement framework is divided into five phases, including project initiation and
team formation; data collection and evaluation; prioritization of OEE losses; root
causes analysis and OEE improvement; as well as control and sustain OEE
improvement. Based on the use of this framework, improvements were proposed in
the form of increasing the number of mechanical workers, designing SOPs and
checklist sheets, and replacing lower hook component materials. If the improvement
solution can be implemented, the average OEE value per month is estimated to
increase by 7,3% to 9,5%.
