Summary: | This research focused on findings potential of post-decorative floral waste as a
material for the interior and decoration product. This research is a response to
the increasing amount of waste in Indonesia and most of it is organic waste of
which flowers are part. Events e.g weddings, graduations, and birthdays are
occasions often lead to a significant amount of floral waste after the event. In
view of the data collected, it is estimated that weddings create 151 bouquets of
flowers and leaves, equivalent to 6 kg of fresh flowers that then become waste.
Each flower arrangement uses a medium, such as floral foam, made of
polystyrene which is not biodegradable. Floral foam along with flowers become
decoration waste that accumulates and cannot be decomposed. Therefore, the aim
of this research study is to develop the utilization of flower waste as an
environmentally friendly floral foam substituteExperimental method with baking
process was used to process flower waste into a ready-to-use product. The results
of this experiment showed that flower waste with a 3:1 ratio of tapioca adhesive
mixture, as well as additional glycerol and CMC can be a medium for flower
arranging with the hydrophilic properties. This research identifies the potential of
flower waste as an effective alternative material for the flower arranging industry.
By utilizing organic materials from flower waste, this arrangement media can be
an environmentally friendly alternative to floral foam.
