Forest product marketing especially for pulp and paper must fulfill customer requirements quantitatively and qualitatively. Qualitative requirements are translated as quality assurance and also certification process to ensure pulp and paper quality in production - social - ecology sustainability and legal compliance. In order to fulfill the sustainability requirements, Riaufiber implement the Sustainable Forest Management concept for plantation. Riaufiber has to ensure the legality of wood supplied to the mill as raw material for pulp and paper production.

This research is conducted to study the operational and information system implementation regarding to the Chain of Custody (CoC) and Controlled Wood (CW) of sustainable forest management in humanware and orgaware point of view as supporting items on production controlling and wood source legality.

Operation system which implemented by Riaufiber is able to prove the wood legality physically and administratively. This system is supported by information systems developed, Plantation Information Management System (PIMS) and Production Control System (PCS), these system are strongly supported and helpful in operating the sustainable forest management concept in the field.

The implemented PIMS and PCS are well known by most of respondents, 87% (75 staff) of 86 respondents. 79% (68 staff) of 86 respondents know and understand the PIMS and PCS concept and principles. All Askeps and Managers know well how these systems work, Mandors only 60% (18 staff) of 30 Mandors and 88% of 48 Asistens.

Obstacles found are lack of man power and disciplinary behavior of field staff. Both problems are categorized in humanware and orgaware aspects of system implementation analysis.

Few recommendations are proposed to strengthen the operation and information systems implementation in chain of custody and controlled wood. Specific technical training subjected to sustainable forest management concept for Mandor for each level and function must be implemented in order to increase the sustainable forest management system awareness and understanding in Riaufiber.

Detailed study must be carried out to state standard vessel volume of each truck in order to ensure there will be no significant difference of TPN out volume against TUK Volume.

Further analysis of man power requirement (Loading Foreman) considering the area coverage supervised to anticipate asymmetric field staff distribution. In order to maintain and strengthen staff discipline, work ethic training must be strategically implemented and related rules must be developed and implemented.
