The increase in population and people's standard of living also become a catalyst for high energy consumption and CO2 emission rates. On the other hand, technology developments offer various possibilities to intervene and change this problem. One way is to implement Internet of Things (IoT) technology in residential buildings. This concept is known as smart home system. Smart home system are believed to be able to help improve energy efficiency in residential buildings so that they can reduce the rate of CO2 gas emissions. Through this research, it will be revealed how technological readiness and community preferences are in the process of adopting smart home systems in residential buildings in Indonesia. Apart from that, we will find out things that need to be considered in designing a residential building in Indonesia that can facilitate smart home system implementation to increase its energy efficiency. The data collection method used in this study is qualitative, namely through literature studies, questionnaires, observations, and discussions. Meanwhile, the data analysis methods used are content analysis, clustering analysis and comparative analysis. Through this research, output will be obtained in the form of knowledge about the level of technological readiness in Indonesia to apply smart home systems and people’s preferences for smart home systems. Besides, it is hoped that recommendations can also be obtained regarding residential buildings in Indonesia so that they can implement smart home systems to increase its energy eficiency. This research is expected to be able to provide information and recommendations to stakeholders involved in the smart home industry as well as to the government, as well as adding insight into smart homes in the field of architecture. text
