Description
Summary:The hydrodynamics in Semarang Bay are influenced by the seasonal monsoons and the Indonesian Throughflow (ITF). The water circulation in this bay is unique due to the distinctive geomorphological shape of the bay and the sloping topography of Semarang, which also makes the city highly vulnerable to tidal inundation. This study used MIKE21 software to conduct hydrodynamic numerical simulations for the year 2022, investigating the influence of wind on water circulation and its impact on tidal inundation. The model results show that the current flows eastward during flood tide, southward during high tide, westward during ebb tide, and northward during low tide, with the current velocity ranging between 0—0.60 m/s. Wind significantly affects the current velocity, particularly in December, with the impact ranging from 0—0.30 m/s depending on time and location. The maximum extent of the tidal flooding on the event of December 2nd, 2022, at 03.00 UTC+7, was estimated to be 4.9 km, 3.8 km, and 2.0 km in Demak regency, Kendal regency, and Semarang city, respectively
