Description
Summary:Bima Bay, located on Sumbawa Island, West Nusa Tenggara, is directly connected to the Flores Sea. Bima Bay itself has unique characteristics, namely the shape of the bay mouth is narrow but the body of water is long and shallow. This unique shape makes it difficult for water in Bima Bay to enter and exit so that it has poor circulation compared to the Flores Sea. This study aims to determine the contrast between the waters of Bima Bay and the Flores Sea. The data used in this study are temperature, salinity, depth, current, wind, and tide. Temperature and salinity data processing uses the TEOS-10 subroutine to calculate density and Brunt-Väisälä frequency. The visualization results show that there is a contrast between Bima Bay and the Flores Sea, especially on the surface or a depth of 1 meter, although based on the CT-SA graph, the mass of water in Bima Bay also comes from the Flores Sea. The difference in conservative temperature values between Bima Bay and the Flores Sea at a depth of 1 meter is 1,5?C, the difference in absolute salinity is 0,64 g/kg, and the difference in density is 0,3 kg/m3 . The contrast between these two waters occurs because the wind blowing over the Flores Sea is much greater than in Bima Bay. In addition, based on the Brunt-Väisälä frequency value, the waters of Bima Bay tend to be more stable on the surface compared to the Flores Sea so that mixing on the surface of Bima Bay is more limited compared to the Flores Sea with a BruntVäisälä frequency value on the surface of Bima Bay is 0,0025 rad2 /s2 .
