INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/86214 Interaction of the northern waters of Central Java such as Karimunjawa Island and surrounding islands has an impact on economic activities such as agriculture, transportation, and tourism. Physical conditions and hydrodynamic characteristics are dynamic, needed for maintenance, operation, planning. The purpose of this study is to conduct a study on the hydrodynamics of currents generated by tides in the northern waters of Central Java. This research was conducted using the MITGCM model with input data current velocity u and v obtained from TPXO9 (O1, K1, P1, Q1, M2,S2, N2, K2, 2N2, M4, MS4, MN4 ). Model verification was obtained in Semarang with an RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) for elevation of 0.08 m and a correlation coefficient of 0.91 compared to measurement data. Harmonic analysis was carried out to obtain the amplitude and phase of four tidal component (O1, K1, M2, S2). Based on the Formzahl value of 2.23, the tidal type in the study area is a mixed diurnal tide. The dominant tidal component in the study area is K1 with an amplitude of 0.16 - 0.48 m and M2 with an amplitude of 0.06 - 0.18 m. The direction of propagation of diurnal and semidiurnal components has a similar pattern with K1 components having a slower phase. Tidal ellipses for the K1 component on the sea surface are dominated by counterclockwise movement with maximum surface currents reaching 40-60 cm/s, while the M2 component is weaker compared to the K1 component with current magnitudes varying between 3 and 10 cm/s. The minimum average speed of tidal currents is close to 0 m/s at high tide and low tide conditions. The maximum average speed of tidal currents reaches 0.3 m/s with a propagation direction from west to east during spring tide conditions. text
