The need of water is increasing over time due to rapid population growth. Apart from increasing of water demand, the availability is also limited due to land use change. One of solution to overcome the problem is rainwater harvesting. Bandung City is one of the metropolitan city in Indonesia with high rainfall. Even tough the rainfall is high, the use of rainwater by people in Bandung City, including Bandung Wetan District, is limited. The research was conducted at 414 houses. Potentially, rainwater harvesting may produce 3.88 m 3 to 225.2 m 3 of water with an average of 37.93 m 3 . This amount can meet household water needs by 1.52% up to 303.93% with an average of 20.37%. In terms of water fulfillment, 77% of the houses is on 0-25% water fulfillment. In terms of quality, the rainwater is exceed the quality standard Permenkes No 2 Tahun 2023 of turbidity, color, and bacteriological so processing needs to be carried out. The parameters exceeding the standard because roof condition is not maintained. The process including screening, first-flush diverter, 3 cartridge filtration (polypropylene, activated carbon, and ceramic filter), or Home Ultrafiltration before taken to the water tap. In terms of land area needed, 20.29% of the houses have sufficient land, 15.22% don’t have sufficient land, while 64.49% don’t have any remaining land for use. The alternatives are reducing the reservoir volume and communal based rainwater harvesting system. From economic perspective, only 3-6 houses meet surplus condition with payback period 32.03-1266.3 years. The alternatives is reducing the reservoir volume which make payback period become 6.68-190 years. Most of the houses have rainwater harvesting more expensive compared to the existing water source. Although expensive, rainwater harvesting can be used for alternative source at houses or regions that lack of any water sources. text |
