Description
Summary:Since 2013 Depok’s landfill that is located in Cipayung, has been overloaded. The most types of waste in the landfill are organic waste from the household sector. The purpose of this research is to identify the generation, composition and characteristics of household organic waste in Sukmajaya. The improvements of the waste management system will be determined too. The sampling following SNI 19- 3964-1994 and was taken for 8 consecutive days at 50 houses. Identification of the existing waste management system was carried out using a questionnaire to 100 samples, interviews and observation. The existing management system consists of sorting, storing, collecting, transporting, processing and final processing. The organic waste was proccesed by open windrow (6,98% successful rate). The total weight and volume of solid waste generation are 0.348 kg/person/day and 2.347 l/person/day. The characteristics of the waste are 83.48% moisture content, 35.32% C-organic, 1,4% NTK, 25,24 C/N, and 3395.29 cal/gr calorific value. Food waste is the highest composition in organic waste (65,4%). The recommendation for system improvement is to add a treatment process using BSF. Public participation can be increased by procuring socialization. The government needs to improve the facilities and tools needed for the waste management.
