Summary: | In the context of the oil and gas industry, multicomponent fluids are often found in
reservoirs or oil wells, where a mixture of various components such as
hydrocarbons, water, and gas flow and interact with each other. An in-depth
understanding of multicomponent fluid flow in porous media is key to optimizing
oil and gas production from underground reservoirs. One method that can be used
as a solution is Enhanced Oil Recovery. However, the application of Enhanced Oil
Recovery is also faced with technical challenges, including uncertainties in
permeability calculations, which affect the success of the method. A possible
solution is to perform a simulation in a more accurate calculation of effective
permeability. In this final project, research will be conducted to obtain effective
permeability values through multicomponent fluid simulation using the finite
volume method (FVM). The research is conducted by simulating the flow of water
fluid through porous rock samples with air fluid trapped inside. In this study, 7
sandstone rock samples with almost the same porosity, but different structures were
used. Simulations were carried out by varying the wettability parameters of the
fluid. The effective permeability value for wetting simulation varied in the range of
29.124 to 1492.028 mD. Meanwhile, the effective permeability value for nonwetting simulation varies in the range of 1.186 to 109.191 mD. This study also
analyzed the relationship between effective permeability and specific surface area.
Based on the analysis, there is no clear relationship between specific surface area
and effective permeability.
