Description
Summary:The number of Waste Banks in Serang City has been increasing annually. This expansion of Waste Banks is anticipated to result in a greater reduction and management of waste. However, alongside the increase in the number of Waste Banks, there are instances of inactive Waste Banks. It is crucial to assess the current state of waste management, particularly in the management of inorganic waste through Waste Banks in Serang City, including the level of sustainability and the factors affecting the sustainability of Waste Banks. This will ensure that waste management through Waste Banks can continue and improve its performance. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires, interviews, and observations involving customers, Waste Bank managers, community members, and relevant agencies. The study focused on several active Waste Banks in Serang City serving residential areas. In Serang City, there are two types of Waste Banks: the Waste Banks managed by Bank Sampah Digital (BSD) and the self-managed community Waste Banks (BSM). This study examined BSD as a whole and three BSMs: Alam Lestari, MyGold, and Komplek BSB. The sustainability aspects of Waste Banks include economic, environmental, institutional and policy, social, and technology dimensions. The confidence level of the questionnaire was at 85%. Based on the analysis, the reasons and motivations for becoming a customer were economic, environmental, and/or social. The additional monthly income for customers of BSD, Alam Lestari, MyGold, and Komplek BSB were Rp1,987.82; Rp2,302.5; Rp14,481.75; and Rp1,040.92, respectively. The waste reduction capacity of the Waste Banks, based on their service coverage, for BSD, Alam Lestari, MyGold, and Komplek BSB were 0.02%; 0.31%; 0.03%; and 0.02%, respectively. According to paired T-tests, there is a linear relationship between environmental condition changes and the presence of Waste Banks. The percentage of customers at BSD, Alam Lestari, MyGold, and Komplek BSB were 0.30%; 30%; 13.33%; and 20%, respectively. There has been an increase in customers’ knowledge regarding types of waste and their behavior in sorting waste before and after becoming Waste Bank customers. Based on the SWOT analysis, BSD, Bank Sampah Alam Lestari, and Bank Sampah Komplek BSB fall into quadrant I or the S-O position, indicating the need for progressive strategies to ensure their sustainability, and Bank Sampah MyGold falls into quadrant II or the W-O position, indicating the need for a turn around strategy.
