Description
Summary:Indonesia is on the verge of a significant increase in electricity demand, which is expected to increase from 1,400 to 1,760 TWh by 2050. This growth underscores the necessity for an accelerated shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources to ensure a climate-compatible future. However, the utilization of renewable energy is still not optimal because there is a problem of intermittency where renewable energy cannot always produce energy consistently throughout the day. One alternative solution to overcome this problem is thermophotovoltaic (TPV) integrated with thermal energy storage (TES). This bachelor thesis explains the proof of concept and strengthens the thermophotovoltaic power generation system to improve the integration of renewable energy. Experimental results show that higher emitter temperatures significantly increase the output power, although the overall system efficiency remains low at around 0.003% due to spectral mismatch and material degradation at high temperatures. The integration of TPV systems with thermal energy storage is expected to be a promising solution to overcome the intermittency of renewable energy sources.
