Description
Summary:Ceramic membrane has excellent chemical and thermal stability. Zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4) and zirconium(IV) oxide can be used as a ceramic membrane raw material. ZrSiO4-ZrO2 membrane supports have been prepared through uniaxial pressing and followed by sintering. ZrSiO4-ZrO2 membrane support that produced was coated with TiO2 as a membrane toplayer. The effect of ZrSiO4 and ZrO2 composition on the perfomance and membrane morphology were studied. Membrane performance was investigated using water permeability and membrane rejection tests. The membrane morphology was characterized using SEM. Investigation of water permeability showed that the water permeability of membrane support increase with the increase of ZrO2 composition as membrane raw material. The membrane morphology was affected by sintering temperature. At higher sintering temperature, more dense membrane was obtained. Membran rejection showed that Pb(II) could not be rejected by ZrSiO4-ZrO2-TiO2 membrane that sintered at 1300 oC. It was caused by TiO2 layer detaching during permeation process.
