Description
Summary:Coking coal plays a highly important role, particularly in the steel production process, which requires high-quality raw materials. One of the key factors that determines the quality of coking coal is its fluidity properties. This study focuses on the impact of oxidation on the deterioration of fluidity in coking coal from the Batu Ayau Formation, Upper Kutai Basin, Central Kalimantan. In this research, coal samples were collected from the location and air-exposed for two months to observe the effects of oxygen exposure on fluidity reduction. Several methods were employed, including an in-depth literature review, careful sample preparation, proximate analysis to determine basic chemical composition, free-swelling index analysis to measure the coal's swelling capability, calorific value analysis to assess energy potential, and fluidity analysis to observe the extent of changes that occurred. The results of the study revealed a significant decrease in the maximum fluidity of the coal, from 562 ddpm to 131 ddpm, after the oxygen exposure period. These findings provide crucial insights into the characteristics of coking coal from the Batu Ayau Formation, which can be further optimized for use in the metallurgical industry, particularly in improving the quality of the coking process for more efficient steel production.
