INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/86711 Safe sanitation makes great contribution to public health and societal well-being, but disparities in sanitation access still exist, especially in urban settings where challenges are even more pronounced. This research investigates the influence of gender, socioeconomic status, and empowerment on access to sanitation in Central Jakarta, Indonesia. From a survei with 450 residents, it was found that men are considerably more empowered. This would also provide them with more opportunities in community, which will empower men to transform their sanitation conditions. On the other hand, women's options and choices are constrained by their traditional roles and economic dependence. The analysis shows that access to sanitation is positively related to empowerment, though socioeconomic conditions also play a role. Socioeconomic status proves to be a stronger determinant of access to sanitation than gender, which further outlines the intricacies of urban sanitation issues. The findings provide support for policies toward gender equity and economic parity, ensuring inclusive access to sanitation and consequently empowering marginalized communities. A holistic approach will enhance health outcomes and social equity in urban areas. text |
